Living Tiny in Edmonton - Tiny Home Bylaw Changes
Did you know that the city of Edmonton has rezoned to allow tiny homes on wheels as both secondary and primary residences? They have even zoned for multiple units on the same lot! Edmonton is the first city in Canada to make these legislative changes, and will no doubt be paving the way for other communities as they lead by example. This has really got the tiny home community excited! You can take a look at the articles below, but here are some key points:
Trailers need to be affixed to the foundation (ie. trailer jacks) and wheels removed (or hidden)
Trailers need to be skirted
The tongue of the trailer needs to be covered
The exterior finish needs to be as good or better than the surrounding buildings.
As Edmonton blazes a trail that other municipalities can follow, my fellow board members on the Tiny Home Alliance of Canada are excited about the potential impact of this, nationwide.
A huge shout out to the city of Edmonton, and all the advocates who worked hard to bring about these changes.
Does this make you see the empty space in your backyard differently? Rental opportunity? VRBO? Space for mom and dad? Get that kid out of your basement?
