Oh how our tiny home sparked joy at Christmas

This year, more than ever, we needed a little Christmas joy. We needed an opportunity to connect and tap into the feel-good story of how communities come together to take care of each other, especially to take care of those among us in need.

The Spruce Grove Kinettes Christmas Hamper program provides food and gifts to support local families struggling with limited income. In Parkland county alone there are 975 families registered for this program! Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the Spruce Grove Kinettes weren’t able to collect items for their Christmas hampers the way they usually do this time of year.

Rallying in the face of this pandemic is what healthy communities do! Getting creative with how to love, while maintaining physical distance, is our new normal. We wanted to help inspire the community to get together and help.

Fritz Tiny Homes, EconoLube, and countless other Spruce Grove and area businesses teamed up together to make this happen!

We filled a tiny home with toys!

On December 4 & 5, we parking our tiny home at EconoLube Plus in Spruce Grove. The purpose was to rally the community to fill the tiny home to the brim with toys for the Spruce Grove Kinettes. In order to protect the health of our community, all Alberta Real Estate Association AHS Guidelines were respected and followed at this event.

For every toy donated, we entered names into a draw for one of the themed gift baskets donated by local businesses. There were date night packages, a home décor giveaway, lady's self-care package, an ice fishing getaway, and a family night giveaway valued at over $1000!

The generosity of the small business community was overwhelming.

Our only goal was to light up children's faces this Christmas, and to see the community come together in an overwhelming display of generosity. Exactly this and more happened! Together with Econolube and the support of the TriRegion communities, we raised 645 toys and over $6000 in cash donations and gift cards.

Covid 19 has taken its toll on our communities, but it has not taken the ability to love and be generous to those who need it most. What a beautiful site to see the spirit of Christmas displayed.
