Our Top 10 Moments of 2022

Building tiny homes for a living isn’t for the faint of heart! But man 2022 was a wild year full of triumphs and joys.

As we embark on a new year full of opportunity and possibility we want to take a moment to reflect on 2022. It was a huge year for us both personally and professionally, there were high highs and we experienced many challenges and deep sorrow. We learned about holding joy and sorrow at the same time and how to keep persevering forward and fighting hard for what we believe in.

Here are our Top 10 Moments of 2022:

1. Top Adventure: Hands down installing the Halcyon 01 in the mountains of Colorado was our top adventure of 2022. Colorado is such a beautiful state and we were honored to install one of our tiny homes just outside Crested Butte. A 10,800-foot elevation, a very remote location with no cell reception, tight roads, a 30% grade, and a pending snowstorm made for a VERY TIGHT timeline and a crazy adventure. We worked long days and got it done just in time to get out of Crested Butte and back to Denver before the snow came and closed the road in. We can honestly say where there is a will there is a way! 

2. Top Heartbreak: This year we said goodbye to one of our greatest supporters, Kev’s mom. She taught Kev how to design and how to dream. She gave us the confidence to step out into the unknown, find our way, and pursue a dream.  She was a fighter and taught us what was worth fighting for. She loved unconditionally. She accepted the unacceptable. She fought for the underdog. She walked gently and left deep footprints. She left the world better than when she found it. She made the world more beautiful. Karen lived in a way that made saying goodbye hard. We should all strive to do the same.

3. Top "We Are So Proud” Moment: This year we expanded our team and moved into a new shop in Devon, AB. Our team is INCREDIBLE and we are so proud of them. Their combined skill, knowledge, talent and work ethic blows us away! There is rock music, shenanigans and laughter in the shop every day. Ty, Cody, Marvin, Ben, and Nate, show up every day and put so much heart into our homes. They take so much pride in their work. I can’t wait to see what we will create together with our team in 2023! 

 4. Top Grateful Moment of 2022: Having the Trahan custom build featured in Dwell and A&E Living Smaller!  We loved seeing one of our favorite builds being honored for its design and architecture alongside such inspiring and great designs from around the world. We’re so humbled by the continued attention and interest in some of our designs and builds. We’re excited to see the Trahan design inspiration make its way into the Halcyon model line in 2023.

 5. Top Custom Build: This year we had the joy of designing a custom tiny home for our clients Vince and Ayse as part of their retirement dream. Kev listened to their vision for tiny living and custom designed this completely off-grid luxury 32’ gooseneck. We then had the opportunity to meet the Macdonald build in Ancaster, Ontario, and participate in Canada’s Tiny Home Show. Thousands of people had the opportunity to tour this building in person, we shared more of our story on the stage as we spoke publicly, and connected with community leaders inspired to change legislation to make tiny living easier in Ontario.  

6. Top Behind the Scenes Moment that Made us Laugh: Who knew that posting a video opening and closing a couch could be the video that went viral for us on TikTok! What made us laugh was all the crazy comments as people reacted to the couch opening. Many people did not think I made opening and closing the couch look that easy as I was a bit out of breath in the video (apparently). What people did not know was that that morning, I had my finger closed in the door of this home and it was crushed! In true “get it done” and “gut it out” I did a full day of filming with that broken finger that day and looking back at this TikTok sure makes me laugh at what you can overcome and get done.

7. Top Cutest Moment: The hobby farm sure delivered joy this year. Baby goats, goslings, and bunnies were snuggled and shared. We love this space. 7. The Top Risk: We started a model line so we could get more homes out in the world. We have spent countless hours perfecting our luxury tiny home designs and decided to release a number of pre-designed, semi-customizable models. What did we discover? That for so many, we nailed floorplans that WORK. We want to make it easy for you to build the life you want. Our model homes blend luxury finishes with innovative design to help you achieve the freedom that comes from living in a smaller space.  9. Top Surprise: We were not expecting to put a second model out so soon but after listening to the needs of our clients we were inspired to move fast and design Halcyon 02. The feedback has been overwhelming! Apparently, this is the design you have all been waiting for. It's all in the added flex room because we know sometimes you need just a bit more! This 9’ x 8’6” space transforms the floor plan to bring more flexibility to living in a smaller footprint. We imagine this room to be a home office, gym, main floor bedroom, music studio, creative space, etc. We are loving hearing from our clients about how they want to use this flex space.

10: Top Hope for 2023: Kev and I are so grateful to be building this business together with our partner Troy. We are so grateful for our community around us that is so supportive. Thanks for cheering us on this year as we have shared our life with you through social media, emails, videos and blogs. As we turn the page over to 2023 we wish you a VERY Happy New Year. Our hope for you is that you truly live life on purpose in 2023. It is all about the little decisions we make daily to be intentional with the time we have.
